The Sooners have waited 247 days, and they’ll finally get their crack at it when play opens at 6 p.m. tonight at Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium against the Utah State Aggies.

The Oklahoma Sooners host the Utah State Aggies on Saturday, Sept. 4 at 7:00 EST. The Sooners are certainly looking to avoid a repeat of last year’s opener, where they lost their Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback in Sam Bradford and fell to unranked BYU 14-13.
That loss virtually ended all national title hopes for Oklahoma, and they were never fully able to recover.
Certainly, their chances of losing to the Aggies are much slimmer considering college football odds makers have listed Oklahoma -33.5 over Utah State with a total set of 58 points.
Many of Oklahoma's losses came by seven points or less. In
fact, they lost to both BYU and Miami by a single point and also to BCS Championship runner-up Texas by three.
This is an offense that returns a lot of talent and should put up a lot of points this season.
Oklahoma scored 31.1 points per game last year, and that number should increase this season with quarterback Landry Jones, running back DeMarco Murray, and receiver Ryan Broyles all returning.
Jones got plenty of experience replacing Bradford last season, and that should help him make a smooth transition from the get-go in 2010.
He threw for a career-high 418 yards in their 31-27 win over Stanford in the Sun Bowl.
If Murray can stay healthy, then he’s a legitimate Heisman Trophy candidate. Murray has rushed for nearly 2,500 yards...(Read Full Article)
The purpose of these college football threads and articles are to help those who don't know a ton about the sport to stay informed throughout the year up until draft time. There are several people on this site, and others from other SBNation sites, that love to talk about college football. If you consider youself not interested, or not understanding why it's being discussed on a Niners related website then there are plenty of other great articles and fanposts on the site to focus on relative to the 49ers.
There have already been some really intriguing games and matchups. College Football kicked off
this past Thursday and will continue on in to Monday. So there is still plenty of action left this week with a majority of it happening this morning and continuing on in to the evening.
I am going to start the body of the article with a few important recaps and then get in to the rest of the remaining schedule discussing a few of the more important matchups.
If you didn't get a chance to see it, here is the College Football Top 25 Preview Article I posted on Wednesday before things hit full-swing. Feel free to post comments about what games mean the most to you and of course just general comments about any game that is on throughout the course of the day.

We'll have the official game thread for Oklahoma's game against Utah State up around 5:00 pm (CST) but there's plenty of college football to talk about before then. Within the Big 12 there are only a handful of games that are intriguing. Missouri vs. Illinois will give us a good look at how the Tigers are going to adjust to the absence of Derrick Washington. Colorado and Colorado state will show us if the Buffs offensive line has improved or not. UCLA at Kansas State is Big 12's marquee match-up of the weekend. Washington State at Oklahoma State lets us see exactly what the Cowboys have to work with this season....(Read Full Article)
The Homerism crew is so Pete Carroll-level jacked up for today's action that I'm not even going to bother waiting for the games to begin to start rambling for our legions of dedicated fellowers:
*I realize it's Toledo, but Arizona's performance last night was definitely the most impressive so far in this very young season. Quarterback Nick Foles was throwing rockets to a pack of enormous receivers. I try to not let Week One games get me too overly enthusiastic, but the Wildcats definitely have me rethinking my Pac-10 pick.
*What do people who don't like sports do with themselves?
*A gorgeous
80 degrees and sunny here in Homerismville today – perfect for sitting on my duff and watching football.
*Of course, I always love the start of college football until I realize the best game on at noon is probably Miami (OH) at Florida. You know you've got a captive audience, don't you, ESPN.
*Speaking of my viewing schedule for today (all times EST):
Samford at Florida State (12 pm) – Want to see how the 'Noles look in preparation for next weekend. Trust me, no reason to tune into this snuff film otherwise. Will probably switch over to Illinois-Missouri relatively quickly.
Texas "at" Rice (3:30 pm) – How gracious of the Longhorns to give the Owls a home game at Reliant Stadium. UT is unveiling its new...(Read Full Article)
What's at stake: OU's school-record 30-game home winning streak is the nation's longest active run and is tied for 19th all-time. Against Utah State, the Sooners seek to become the seventh team in NCAA ...
Sam Bradford will have to wait a few days to learn if he will start the St. Louis Rams' opener. The No. 1 pick certainly has appeared ready for the job.
Week one of the RCT Community picks are finalized and we ended up getting 31 votes total. Not too bad for week 1 and hopefully as the season goes along those numbers will pick up each week. I'm going to keep the results here short and sweet, especially this week because there is a pretty clear favorite in all but two games. Throughout the season I will keep track of the community's record so we can brag about our expertise at the end of the season.
The games will be broken down into three categories. Category one will be the
locks and I'll put any team that gets 85% of more of the vote into this group. Category two will be the "pretty confident" group and this category will be games that have any from 60% to 84% of the vote for one team. The third category will be the "toss up" group, these games will have the votes split from 40% to 59% for one team. Time for the results after the jump!
Locks
Kansas over North Dakota State: The Jayhawks ran away with the vote and pitched a shutout. Impressive work for the Jayhawks.
Iowa State over Northern Illinois: 97% for Iowa State, good call on this one.
Missouri over Illinois: 87% for the Tigers in this one today. Higher than I expected considering...(Read Full Article)
OU, OSU quarterbacks just a hit away from disaster
It's not fun playing the Debbie Downer role for Bedlam football fans the opening week of the season, but somebody has to do it. The factor tempering my optimism for Oklahoma and Oklahoma State is a relatively ...
