College Football Gameday Thread

( 0 Votes ) SB Nation - Nebraska Cornhuskers >>

The purpose of these college football threads and articles are to help those who don't know a ton about the sport to stay informed throughout the year up until draft time. There are several people on this site, and others from other SBNation sites, that love to talk about college football. If you consider youself not interested, or not understanding why it's being discussed on a Niners related website then there are plenty of other great articles and fanposts on the site to focus on relative to the 49ers. There have already been some really intriguing games and matchups. College Football kicked off
this past Thursday and will continue on in to Monday. So there is still plenty of action left this week with a majority of it happening this morning and continuing on in to the evening. I am going to start the body of the article with a few important recaps and then get in to the rest of the remaining schedule discussing a few of the more important matchups. If you didn't get a chance to see it, here is the College Football Top 25 Preview Article I posted on Wednesday before things hit full-swing. Feel free to post comments about what games mean the most to you and of course just general comments about any game that is on throughout the course of the day. Hit the...(Read Full Article)

Nebraska's Schedule, D Make Team a Good Bet For a National Title Run: Part 2

E-mail

( 0 Votes ) Bleacher Report - Nebraska Huskers Football >>
While the schedule figures to be the biggest factor in bringing the Huskers back to national prominence, the defense and ground game can not go unnoticed. A top-five defense and a top-20 running game are both realistic expectations for Big Red, and serve as Bo Pelini's foundation for a promising future. If Husker fans were to ignore the void created by the graduation of Ndamukong Suh, they'd be doing a disservice to a player that will go down as one of the greatest defenders in college football history. Suh single-handedly changed plays, and frequently took the entire defense on his back, while
willing the unit to key stops. He can't be replaced by one man, and thank God for Husker fans, he won't have to be. In fact, because of Suh's absence, I think we'll see the Pelini run their defense the way they always planned, with lots of blitzes and disguised coverages that will be very tough for opponents to anticipate. Every report coming out of Lincoln suggests that both Pierre Allen and Jared Crick are primed for All-American-type years. Neither may approach Suh's incredible numbers from 2009, but the combination of the two, along with a rotation that appears to be at least two deep across the board, figures to make up one of the best defensive lines in the country. The linebacking core has been hit hard by injuries, and if...(Read Full Article)

Waiting For The Nebraska Game Open Thread - Watchya Doing This Weekend?

E-mail

( 0 Votes ) SB Nation - Nebraska Cornhuskers >>
You wish you were there, don't you?   The worst thing about evening games is the waiting. Nebraska's season opener, so close, but yet.. so far...  it's like that last mile when ya gotta pee real bad and you've driven eight-ten hours and you just want to get back home. Hey, we're here for you. If you haven't already introduced yourself in the roll call, please do so, and consider yourself welcomed to the community. (You'll need an account to post and if you want to contribute more than that, there's
even a tutorial available.) Whooeee! It's the first full weekend of college football. Don't know about you, but I don't get out much (not even making that up). I tend to get up early, watch ESPN's College Gameday (except for any Lou Holtz segments) and then flip between as many games as possible until the Big Red comes on. Consider this your open thread until the Nebraska game starts at 6:00 pm (oh so far away). In the meantime, let us know - watchya doing this weekend? Any special plans? Any great food you got planned for game time? Any bold predictions for the season? Any games besides Nebraska you're wild about watching? More importantly - who's Nebraska's starter at quarterback?...(Read Full Article)

Big 12 Community Picks

E-mail

( 0 Votes ) SB Nation - Nebraska Cornhuskers >>
Week one of the RCT Community picks are finalized and we ended up getting 31 votes total.  Not too bad for week 1 and hopefully as the season goes along those numbers will pick up each week.  I'm going to keep the results here short and sweet, especially this week because there is a pretty clear favorite in all but two games.  Throughout the season  I will keep track of the community's record so we can brag about our expertise at the end of the season.   The games will be broken down into three categories.  Category one will be the
locks and I'll put any team that gets 85% of more of the vote into this group.  Category two will be the "pretty confident" group and this category will be games that have any from 60% to 84% of the vote for one team.  The third category will be the "toss up" group, these games will have the votes split from 40% to 59% for one team.  Time for the results after the jump! Locks Kansas over North Dakota State:  The Jayhawks ran away with the vote and pitched a shutout.  Impressive work for the Jayhawks.   Iowa State over Northern Illinois: 97% for Iowa State, good call on this one. Missouri over Illinois: 87% for the Tigers in this one today.  Higher than I expected considering...(Read Full Article)
