Stanley Cup Playoffs 2013, Bruins vs. Rangers Game 3: Time, TV schedule and more

The New York Rangers will be in a familiar position on Tuesday night. This is the second consecutive round that the Rangers will have fallen down 2-0 in a postseason series. For the second straight round, they are returning home to Madison Square Garden to face this deficit. Of course, the very fact that they are in the second round tells you the obvious: that doing so in the last round led to the start of their comeback. They will try to win four out of five for the second straight series starting on Tuesday against the Boston Bruins. They will try to do that just two days after playing their worst game of the postseason. The offense was limp, their defense -- even
top dogs Dan Girardi and Ryan McDonagh -- was tissue paper, and Henrik Lundqvist surrendered five goals. You play another game like that, and you're basically dead in the water. The Rangers, their coaches, players and fans all know this. Should the Rangers play an improved game on Tuesday night and win Game 3, then you start to build a little doubt. Remember, this is a Boston team that almost gave away a 3-1 series lead just a week ago. This is a Rangers team that fully came back from a 2-0 deficit just a week ago. The Rangers win tonight, and it is a series. They lose, and it becomes a laugher. Will Boston's young defense continue to step up? Torey Krug is an undrafted, 22-year-old defenseman out of...(Read Full Article)

Farewell Tony Pulis, a piece of England dies with you today

There are few people in the football management game, let alone those at Stoke City, who could headbutt one of their own players whilst naked and not go down in history for this alone, and Tony Pulis is one of them. That infamous episode did prompt the response "hold on, Tony Pulis showers with his players?", to which the Guardian's Secret Footballer gave the endlessly haunting insight that "a tracksuit manager will generally shower with his players. A manager who wears a suit will not." Once we'd picked our way through that minefield of images, exorcising the ghosts of David Moyes, Owen Coyle, and, yes, Steve Bruce, howling through our mind's eyes, it was quite fitting that Pulis should be described
as such. Many managers can wear a tracksuit from time to time, but it takes something else, something special, to truly achieve that crown of 'tracksuit manager.' In the same way Roberto Mancini's scarf failed to elevate him to the status of José Mourinho, the Armani manager, a legend cannot exist on man-made fabrics alone. Pulis, however, had something else.
Sam Allardyce, the former long-ball bogeyman, and the incumbent. Mike Hewitt / Getty Images The tracksuit manager once prowled the English landscape as its dominant species, but their decline has sadly gone under the radar. Part of this is the general preference towards what is popularly known as 'attractive football', but it's also because their traditional territory has been encroached upon by a new scion of coach; a mongrel breed which is difficult to conceptualise, partly because 'faded-sports-jumper-and-trackie-b's-washed-so-much-they've-gone-fluffy' doesn't roll off the tongue quite well enough to enter the lexicon...(Read Full Article)

Seahawks waive Josh Portis after DUI arrest

The Seattle Seahawks have waived backup quarterback Josh Portis. This move comes just one day after he was arrested under suspicion of DUI.
Follow the story at Seahawks blog Field Gulls
Portis was signed in 2011 as an undrafted free agent out of California (PA). He spent the entire year on the 53-man roster but never saw action in a regular season game. Portis was stashed on the practice squad in 2012. Portis was already facing an uphill battle to make the roster, and with the Seahawks facing scrutiny for multiple PED suspensions, his arrest made it that much easier for the team to wash their hands of him. His court arraignment is scheduled for May 28. The

Seahawks QB Russell Wilson is 'miles ahead' of last offseason

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll had effusive praise for second-year quarterback Russell Wilson, telling the Tacoma News Tribune that he is "a million miles ahead" of where he was last season. "He threw a couple of balls today, things that we talked about over the offseason that he'd like to take a shot at, and he did it today just to see what would happen with full awareness of why he was doing it," Carroll said. "We were talking about trying to throw the deep ball last year over guys' outside shoulder; we're just a million miles ahead of where we were. He's the kind of player that will affect other guys - he affects everyone around him -
and hopefully that will help everyone play better and faster." Wilson entered his rookie year in a three-way battle with Matt Flynn and Tarvaris Jackson, but he ended up winning the job and led the Seahawks to a 11-5 season and playoff win. Now the unquestioned starter, Wilson has been working on his weight. He's now up to 215 pounds after weighing 209 last season.

NHL playoffs 2013: Dennis Seidenberg unlikely for Game 3

Boston Bruins defenseman Dennis Seidenberg is unlikely to play in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Semifinal against the New York Rangers on Tuesday night, according to head coach Claude Julien after morning skate. Julien stated that he didn't expect Seidenberg to participate in warmups for Game 3 and would be as surprised as anyone if he was able to do so. The head coach also directly said he didn't expect Seidenberg to be available. Seidenberg sustained a lower-body injury in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinal. He has missed the first two games of the semifinal due to the issue. On Monday, Julien stated Seidenberg was likely a game-time decision for Game 3 and that his status was
going to be determined based upon how he felt. Apparently, he still isn't ready to return to action. In addition to Seidenberg, Wade Redden has missed time due to injury. He's expected to be a game-time decision. The 2 sides of Dwight Howard's latest Lakers PR nightmare

E-mail

( 0 Votes ) SBNation.com - All Posts >>
Dwight Howard apparently had a second, secret exit interview once the Lakers were eliminated from the playoffs. After meeting with coach Mike D'Antoni and GM Mitch Kupchak like every other player, Dwight circled back and had a private talk with Kupchak about D'Antoni. ESPN L.A. reports that Howard groused about D'Antoni not including him in chats about the team with Kobe Bryant and Steve Nash and how he generally doesn't feel comfortable with the coach. On one hand, does anyone in L.A. like D'Antoni right now? Fans openly (and loudly) propositioned toward Phil Jackson while D'Antoni was in the locker room trying to coach his team. Both troll and non-troll columnists have expressed skepticism at D'Antoni's ability to
get this team another championship. If L.A.'s Tuesday election to pick a new mayor instead determined the next coach of the team, turnout would be multiples of the expected 25 percent. And D'Antoni would almost assuredly not finish first. So in this sense, by disliking or mistrusting D'Antoni, Howard is aligned with a great number of Lakers fans, analysts and observers ... and maybe even his teammates. Frankly, there's no problem with wanting to talk to Kupchak about D'Antoni. It's unfortunate someone -- probably one of Dwight's leaky friends -- spilled it to the media. But then there's the actual whine itself: that D'Antoni consulted Kobe and Nash but not Dwight. Uh ... so? Kobe and Nash are legends, veterans and very obvious team leaders. Howard has been around the league a while, but had only a limited relationship with D'Antoni prior...(Read Full Article)

MLB teams to wear camouflage-themed unis for Memorial Day

E-mail

( 0 Votes ) SBNation.com - All Posts >>
Nothing has been officially announced as of yet, but Paul Lukas of Uni-watch has picked up that every MLB team is planning to wear special uniforms next Monday for Memorial Day. Like the unis that the Angels and White Sox donned last Saturday for Armed Forces Day, the numbers and lettering on each team's jersey will be in a camouflage design. Teams have worn camouflage-themed hats in the past -- and the Padres have a camo-heavy jersey in their regular rotation -- but this is the first time the whole league has adorned camo-themed tops. The discovery of next Monday's unique unis came on a thorough perusal of MLB.com's team stores. There is a single camouflage jersey available -- either
home-white or road-grey -- for each of the 30 clubs, and in the fine print of each listing is the note: "As worn on-field May 27, 2013." Either MLB is time-traveling or someone jumped the gun. Lukas posits that a black armband would be a more appropriate uniform modification for Memorial Day, considering that it is a day to honor the military dead, and not just the armed forces in general. One imagines the black armband wouldn't sell as many jerseys, however, which probably played into the league's decision.
