Kyle Noke Wants Ultimate Fighter Coaching Job and Then Fight Patrick Cote

Former The Ultimate Fighter competitor Kyle Noke is hoping that he can bring his UFC career full circle by putting his name in the hat to become a coach on the new international season of the reality show, which pits his native Australia against Canada. Noke, who was one of the first fighters to come to prominence out of Australia, has been nursing a wrist injury after having surgery just weeks ago, but he's already targeting his next mission in the UFC. While he missed out on the first season of the international reality show while fellow countryman George Sotiropoulos
took on Ross Pearson, Noke is ready for the challenge in the next version. "That's something that I definitely want to do, and I think me versus probably Patrick Cote would be the most logical choice for the coaching job," Noke told MMA's Great Debate Radio recently.  "I'd love to fight him, I'd love to see it.  I know he's been tweeting about it and would love the job also.  So we both want the job, let's get in there and do it. "He's another big guy, he just came down a weight division.  I think that would be a great fight, and it would be a great show to have me versus him." Cote also told Bleacher Report recently, after inking a...(Read Full Article)

Manager: Carlos Condit could return to UFC as early as August, but not before he perfects his wrestling

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight number one contender Carlos Condit, who held the 170-pound strap for World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC), has been hovering at the top of the division for the past couple of years. What kept him from going all the way, was his inability to neutralize good wrestling. That's an aspect of his overall game "The Natural Born Killer" wants to improve before he makes his return to the Octagon, which could be as early as August, if UFC has its way, but may not be until September, according to manager Malki Kawa. From
his conversation with MMA's Great Debate Radio: "There actually is a fight on the radar. The UFC has been talking about a fight for Carlos Condit, but Carlos right now at this moment is looking to improve his wrestling. He's really concentrating on that a lot. I think his timetable is September, and I think the UFC wants him to come back and fight some time in August. So we'll see what happens, I think right now he really wants to perfect his wrestling." Better late than never. Condit was turned away by division champion Georges St. Pierre at UFC 154 last year in Montreal, and followed up that defeat with a unanimous decision loss to Johny Hendricks at UFC 158...(Read Full Article)

Matt Riddle booked for Bellator MMA season nine welterweight tournament

Newport Beach, CA. (May 20, 2013) - With a division already boasting the likes of Ben Askren, Paul Daley, Douglas Lima, Ben Saunders, Andrey Koreshkov and Karl Amoussou, Matt Riddle knows he will be swimming in "Deep Waters" when he enters the Bellator Welterweight Tournament this Fall as Bellator has signed a long-term promotional agreement with the controversial Pennsylvania native. Riddle joins Bellator coming off four straight victories with the UFC, but was recently released as he failed his post-fight drug test after his victory over Che Mills. Known for his
strong wrestling and Jiu-Jitsu background along with a stifling takedown defense, Riddle is ready to challenge himself against the best in the world inside the Bellator cage. "I had so many options after I left the UFC, but knowing that I was able to compete in a tournament against guys like Paul Daley, Ben Saunders, and Douglas Lima, signing with Bellator was an easy decision," Riddle said. "This division is just so stacked, and being able to fight in a tournament makes it even better. Bellator is doing a lot of great things right now, and I want to be a part of it." Bellator CEO & Chairman Bjorn Rebney understands some of the risks involved with signing Riddle, but after discussions with Riddle, Rebney is...(Read Full Article)

Best in the world? Gray Maynard doesn’t think Ben Henderson is even best in his division

Just because he's the current Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight champion and has won seven straight fights in his division -- including two title defenses -- doesn't make Ben Henderson the best 155-pound mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter in the world. At least, not according to Gray Maynard. Appearing on today's (May 20, 2013) edition of "The MMA Hour," Maynard declared that "Smooth" is "tough to beat" and the current king of the lightweights, but that doesn't necessarily make him the best in his weight class. Especially seeing as how Henderson's last three fights against
href="http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/122527/frankie-edgar">Frankie Edgar and Gilbert Melendez were too close for comfort. "The Bully" breaks it down: "No, he's not (the best lightweight). He's good though. He is good. Tough to beat. He's that guy that's hard to beat, but not the best, no. I think he has three bouts that could've gone either/or, that were very close. And to be honest, like I scored three of them to the other guy -- the two Edgar's and Gil. But it could've gone either way." Perhaps Maynard and "El Nino," the man that came up short against Henderson at UFC on FOX 7, have been chatting and sharing notes. Gray will take on T.J. Grant -- whom Gray described as a "tough kid" -- this weekend (May 25,...(Read Full Article)

( 0 Votes ) MMAmania.com - All Posts >>
This post was originally inspired by Tim Burke's article a couple weeks ago on the same subject, but with UFC on FX 8 recently signed, sealed and delivered (results here), we're now an event deeper and two fights further into the "UFC vs. Strikeforce" record. Let's go to the scorecards. The overall Strikeforce fighter (SF) record since closure through UFC on FX 8: 17-18 SF vs. established Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) fighter record: 16-17
SF vs. debuting non-SF UFC fighter record: 1-1 (Gegard Mousasi def. Ilir Latifi, Cat Zingano def.
Miesha Tate) SF fighter record by division:
Heavyweight: 1-0
Light Heavyweight: 2-1
Middleweight: 3-2
Welterweight: 5-6*
Lightweight: 5-5
Featherweight : 0-2
Female Bantamweight: 1-2 *Nah-Shon Burrell vs. Yuri Villefort was technically a catchweight fight, but for the sake of argument, it will be included at 170 pounds. Fights between two Strikeforce fighters: Three (Ronda Rousey vs. Liz Carmouche, Adlan Amagov vs. Chris Spang, Burrell vs. Villefort). Method of victory and defeat for SF: Wins by KO/TKO: Five
Wins by Submission: Four
Wins by Decision: Eight
Losses by KO/TKO: Eight
Losses by Submission: One
Losses by Decision: Nine For those curious as to why people like Nate Marquardt and Robbie Lawler are under Strikeforce, they both count. They were in Strikeforce when it closed and then moved back to...(Read Full Article)

Rory MacDonald says he'll 'figure it all out' on a potential Georges St-Pierre fight

E-mail

( 0 Votes ) MMA Fighting - All Posts >>
UFC contender Rory MacDonald will never, ever fight his Tri-Star Gym teammate, welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre. Except when he would. MacDonald, who will meet Jake Ellenberger in a main-card bout at UFC on FOX 8 in Seattle on July 27, was asked the "will you or won't you?" question on Monday's edition of The MMA Hour about potentially meeting St-Pierre. In the course of his response, MacDonald said he wouldn't fight St-Pierre, since they were friends. Then he abruptly changed course. "We're not fighting," MacDonald said. "Me and Georges are friends, we're training partners. We'll have our own arrangements and figure it
all out when the time comes. It's not going to come to us fighting. Friends, teammates, you know? We're here to help each other." When asked to clarify his "arrangements" comment, MacDonald reiterated his ultimate goal in the sport is to become a champion. "We'll just figure it out," MacDonald said. "I'm not there yet. I'm more focused on Jake than anything, I'm taking it one step at a time. I'm sure at one point I'll be champ in this division, that is my goal. I'm not just here to be No. 3 guy or No. 4 or whatever I'm ranked. Eventually I'll get there." Such talk, of course, is premature, as first he has to get past Ellenberger, winner of eight of his past nine fights. This...(Read Full Article)
